'Noise Police' To Monitor OZZY OSBOURNE's MONSTERS OF ROCK Festival
July 26, 2008According to Bill Kaufmann of the Calgary Sun, city officials will be closely counting decibels at today's Monsters of Rock festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
City bylaw boss Bill Bruce told the newspaper that extra officers will be on hand monitoring the show — which features OZZY OSBOURNE and JUDAS PRIEST, among other bands — as well as the Calgary Folk Festival on Prince's Island.
"If it wasn't a concern, we wouldn't be doing that," said Bruce.
The concerts will be limited to a 65-decibel limit, he said, though it'll be averaged out over an hour rather than judged on noise spikes.
City officials have also given the stadium show a one-hour exemption, to 11 p.m.
That 65-decibel limit is akin to traffic noise on the Deerfoot, said Bruce, but if the heavy-metallers consistently breach it, the plug won't be pulled in front of possibly 20,000 fans.
"We'll be in contact with their sound booth to bring it down," he said, noting the maximum fine is $10,000.
